YES! Nothing left to do but staple the marking sheets to the essays and rewrite my comments in a more coherent form. I feel like I haven’t slept in a week (I haven’t) and my MA hasn’t even really started yet.
Oh well. Tomorrow that will change.
I should probably devote some time now to talk about my thesis. I don’t really want to get into too much detail right now as it’s late, I’m tired and I’m worried I’ll bore myself. However, I do want to highlight the fact that the main case study of my thesis is Pretty Little Liars. A more appropriate name for the show is Problematic Little Liars because I swear, this show is Media Studies gold.
The main love story is between an underage girl and her teacher and the whole town just seems to be inexplicably riddled with pedophiles. A university student takes her boyfriend home to meet her parents and the guy starts making out with her 14 year old sister. A few years later she takes home a different guy, an older med student (her fiancé no less) and he makes out with her now 16 year old sister.
…and that’s just Season 1, folks.
Anyway, I’m sure you all will hear all about it in the coming months. It’s not like I’ll have anything else to talk about.
Things I did today instead of working:
- Got overexcited that my supervisor not only watches Archer but has also watched Home Movies. I mean everyone (with taste) loves Archer but finding someone who knows Home Movies is like finding a unicorn. Shout out to SH, if you’re reading this!
- Thought about how happy my life would be if H Jon Benjamin was in it.
- Got schooled by JK on how to use Microsoft Excel. I need to change my CV because as it turns out, that hour I spent learning Excel with Mr Kirkham in computers class does not count as being ‘proficient’ in the programme. Although if you need to add the number in one cell to the numbers in another cell, I’m your girl.
- Spent at least 2 hours thinking about bacon. I really want to eat bacon.
Random “My dad used to listen to this song all the time and now I kind of love it too'” lyrics:
She wonders how it ever got this crazy
She thinks about a boy she knew in school
Did she get tired or did she just get lazy?
She’s so far gone she feels just like a fool
My, oh my, you sure know how to arrange things
You set it up so well, so carefully
Ain’t it funny how your new life didn’t change things
You’re still the same old girl you used to be
